Eugene enjoys the reputation of being one of the most livable and the #1 "green" city in the United States.
Eugene is a very small city, more like a big town with a fairly progressive social, political and community minded base of citizens. The 4J School District schools are comparatively well funded through local community support and a high level of parent involvement. The University of Oregon is located in the heart of Eugene and keeps the city feeling young and infused with innovation. The city of Eugene is home to the original Saturday Market, a weekly street market that attracts a very creative group of artisans as well as fresh, organic, locally grown produce. Many locals belong to a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program that delivers a weekly box of produce from one of the many (mostly organic) farms located around the Willamette Valley. The arts are alive and thriving in Eugene with many organizations working together to convert downtown Eugene from a nearly abandoned block of streets to a vibrant arts and business community once again.
